The Feminist Struggle in the Senegalese Novel

This article analyzes Sembene Ousmane's and Mariama Ba's novels in an attempt to determine whether or not the struggle of Feminism in achieving its inherent objectives is gender based. Indeed, there are those radical feminist critics, especially Euro-Americans, who accuse African male novelists, among other things,of marginalising the Africanwoman. From the narrowed lenses of these critics, the African woman's worst enemy is the African man. On the contrary, this study points out that African female and male novelists pursue the same agenda, the liberation of the Africanwoman from those traditional beliefs that place the African woman at a disadvantaged position.
